Klarke
Caplin is a photograhpher with an edge!
She has decided to do something to
highlight the silent suffering of millions of women
with endometriosis - women you may meet every day, but
you would not know that they may be in pain when you
see them!
Klarke had the idea of photographing
women with endometriosis. Says Klarke "I did it
to raise the awareness of this condition and for the
sufferers, and to show how beautiful these women are
despite the debilitating symptoms of this chronic condition".
The 'models' range in age from 20 to
57, from different ethic backgrounds and body sizes
6 to 22 - some are wheel chair bound by it. Klarke did
this in order to dispel one of the myths about endometriosis
that it is a middle class white woman's disease - we
all know it can affect any woman of reproductive age.
The photographic shoots took place
over three and half days to co-ordinate with Endometriosis
Awareness Week in 2007, where a private viewing of the
phorographs raised thousands of pounds for the UK's
leading endometriosis charity, Endometriosis UK.
Klarke Caplin owns and runs her own
photographic business, and has photographed celebrities
such as David Beckham, Christina Aguilera and Jerry
Hall. She also lectures on photography and is having
some of her portratis of women published in a book later
this year.
