Post-doctoral fellow
A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the Netherlands Metabolomics Centre
(www.metabolomicscentre.nl; info@metabolomicscentre.nl).
The position is funded for a maximum of 3 years and aims to identify (diagnostic) biomarkers in
endometriosis patients. The project is a collaboration between teams from Merck Sharpe Dome
(MSD) in Oss, two leading endometriosis research centers in Leuven and Brussels, the
Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research (LACDR) in Leiden, and the University Medical
Center of Utrecht.
The candidate will be responsible for the metabolomic profiling of plasma samples collected from
control women and endometriosis patients using advanced metabolomics platforms developed in
the NMC and which are operational in the Demonstration and Competence Laboratory of the NMC
located at the LACDR. In addition, the candidate is responsible for the statistical and biological
analysis of the data that are produced within the project. The generated metabolomic fingerprints
will subsequently be validated in independent patient samples as well as in therapeutic animal
models.
The candidate must have a PhD degree, and should be well trained in sophisticated mass
spectrometry techniques and have affinity for biostatistics and bioinformatics. Excellent
communication and social skills are essential; a strong publication record in peer-reviewed English
language scientific journals is preferred. The candidate will be appointed at the LACDR, and will be
stationed in Leiden and/or Utrecht, but will travel frequently between these sites and Oss.
