Pharmacologist (indication gynaecology)

Job description
As a laboratory head in Target Discovery your tasks include identification, evaluation, establishment and usage of adequate animal models for the strategic indications of Bayer Schering Pharma. Focus of your work will be gynaecological diseases such as endometriosis or fibroids. In addition, you search for and establish collaborations with other companies and leading academic institutions to perform in vivo-experiments. You are also contributing, based on your scientific expertise, to the identification and validation of novel targets for this indication. To identify and validate these targets, you are working in an interdisciplinary team from different departments. As lab head, you are managing and guiding initially one to two technical assistants.

Your qualifications
A university degree in biology, biochemistry, human or veterinary medicine and a doctorate in pharmacology, gynaecology/endocrinology, neurology/pain research or immunology followed by a perennial post doc term. Huge experience in a variety of animal models incl. transgenic animals and in the ex vivo characterization of such models. Experience with the in vivo characterisation of biologicals is preferred. Project experience in drug discovery through employment in pharmaceutical industry / biotechnology or through academic research involving collaborations with industry. Successful scientific work documented by scientific and possibly patent publications. Negotiation level knowledge in English, which non-native speakers have improved preferably in an English-speaking country. Strong interest in working in interdisciplinary teams, excellent communication and presentation skills.

Coordinator Research Laboratory Gynecology and Obstetrics

Job description
K.U.Leuven invites applications for a full-time academic position ‘Coordinator Research Laboratory Gynecology and Obstetricsat the Department of Women and Child. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual (m/f) with an excellent research record in an area of female reproductive pathophysiology/ who is able to teach courses on biology of reproduction and reproductive pathophysiology/dysfunction (from gamete to newborn) to students at MSc and PhD level

Duties include:

Research: Successful candidates will support and further expand national and international research collaborations of the department.  More specifically, their role is to actively support and work together with staff members of the Devision of Obstetrics Gynecology in order to achieve scientific advancement of existing research lines in the area of OB GYN (infertility, endometriosis, oncology, trophoblast invasion, fetal medicine, urogynecology, adhesion research, ….). In addition they will be expected to develop an excellent research program of their own and to achieve a scientific output that adheres to the highest international standards.

Teaching:Accepted applicants will take on teaching responsibilities in biology of reproduction and reproductive pathophysiology/dysfunction  (from gamete to newborn) in the Faculty of Medicine and/or in other faculties. They are expected to meet the K.U.Leuven standards regarding academic teachingprograms and to adhere to the K.U.Leuven’s concept of education. A commitment to quality of education as a whole is expected.

Qualifications:
Interested candidates should hold a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences, or equivalent.
Qualified candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and very good teaching and training skills, in order to contribute to the research output of the department and to the quality of its educational program. The high quality of the candidate's research should be evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals. International research experience is highly appreciated.
The following specific qualifications are expected:

  1. Leadership, organisational and communication skills
  2. Ability to work with deadlines
  3. Advanced bench experience in molecular technology ,  tissue morphology,  in vitro culture and rodent model research.
  4. Strong analytical and synthetic intellectual capacities
  5. Established efficiency in raising research founding the attraction of research funding

At K.U.Leuven the main language of instruction is Dutch. Successful applicants who are not proficient in Dutch, will be provided language training in order to be able to also instruct in the Dutch language within three years time. Near-native proficiency in the English language is expected of all applicants.
