Endometriosis Awareness Week in Europe is 6 - 12
March 2006, and in the United States it is for the
entire month of March.
However, activities have been planned in many countries
to raise awareness of endometriosis throughout 2006.
Stay tuned to this page for continuous updates on
what is happening at grass root level in endometriosis!

- materials will be mailed for school
nurses
- a press kit has been prepared and
the media is being contacted
- Endometrioosiyhdistys will also organise
a public lecture in the Turku area on

- Endometrioosiyhdistys plan two more
public lectures in northern part of
Finland in the autumn.

During Endometriosis Awareness Week
there will be an Art exhibition in
Toulouse about gynaecological pain
and endometriosis - one of Endo
France's old friends, who is a
painter and only paints about endometriosis,
will participate and provide teenagers'
pictures as well.
During this
week, women in Rennes will participate
with either a show room or a conference
on endometriosis.

This debate will be coordinated by
well-known journalist, Brigitte Fanny
Cohen, who participated in several
discussions with the French government

| ITALY |
The list that follows includes some of
the activities that the Italian
Endometriosis Association (AIE) has
undertaken or planned for 2006. It should
be understood that it is by no means a
comprehensive list. Forum:
Jacqueline Veit, AIE President has participated
in a Forum with various specialists including
gynaecologists, urologists, gastroenterologists
and general practitioners. An account
of the discussion is to be published in
a scientific magazine distributed to 25,000
GP’s.
Pharmacies: AIE brochures
have been distributed by 84 pharmacies
in and around Milan.
Sardinia: A new support
group has been launched on the beautiful
island of Sardinia. In collaboration
with Prof. Giambattista Melis invitations
to the meeting and AIE informative material
was sent to over 700 women.
Conference: The Policlinic
S.Orsola-Malpighi (Bologna) has organized
a conference open to the general public:
“Endometriosis a social disease.
Physicians and patients debate. Everything
women would like to know”. During
the event the AIE will have a booth
to display and distribute informative
material and Jacqueline Veit and Monica
Neri will be key-note speakers presenting
what it means to live with endometriosis
and the role and importance of the AIE.
The World Meeting on Gynecological
Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis:
The AIE are very proud to be organising
their own symposium “The Italian
Endometriosis Association as a support
to the patient” during this important
international appointment. The aim of
which is to face, together with different
specialists, the issues related to pelvic
pain and particularly to endometriosis,
to introduce new diagnostic techniques
and propose new therapeutics aids. Eminent
international specialists in the field
have been invited to participate in
the symposium, which is open to members,
physicians and the general public. See

Congress: In collaboration
with the Società Italiana Contraccezione
and the Società Italiana Menopausa,
the Associazione Italiana Endometriosi
is organizing a congress in Sardegna
“Endometriosis, contraception,
menopause”. Jacqueline Veit, President
AIE will be one of the co-presidents
of the congress. A whole day will be
dedicated to endometriosis during which
there will be various sessions and a
roundtable. The AIE will also display
and distribute materials at their booth
for the duration of the congress.
Meetings: The AIE has
arranged a series of informative meetings
open to the public with the participation
of expert speakers.
Media: In addition
to articles on endometriosis in magazines,
national and local press, various representatives
of the AIE have given TV and radio interviews.
Table displays: During the entire Endometriosis
Awareness Week the AIE will have table
displays throughout Italy where volunteers
will be providing informational literature
to the public.
Poster: In order to encourage as many
people as possible to give a hand in
promoting awareness the AIE has created
an awareness poster that can be downloaded
and printed out from their web-site.
Leaflet campaigns: members, physicians
and general public are all encouraged
to distribute AIE leaflets.
Senate: Through the
work of the AIE and Italian gynaecologists
the Italian Senate have approved the
final document to recognize endometriosis

Educational efforts:
The AIE is continuing it’s highly
successful adolescent project and has
so far spoken to approximately 1,000
secondary school students. It has also
gathered data through a specifically
designed questionnaire.

Month, in Puerto Rico, by conducting
a patient gathering that will include
an educational program, health clinics,

Lucy Arce will talk about a law naming
March as the endometriosis awareness
month in Puerto Rico and thereby recognizing
this disease as an important one in
our country. Among the topics that will
be covered during the educational program
are: The Puerto Rican Endometriosis

Alternatives for Infertility, Acupuncture

families are gathering at 11.30 in
Parliament Square to raise awareness
of endometriosis.
At 12.30 representatives from the
National
Endometriosis Society
and the Endometriosis
SHE Trust will deliver a petition,
signed by more than 13,000 people,
to Downing Street.

The Endometriosis All Party Parliamentary
Group will host a briefing in the
House of Commons, attended by Health
Minister Caroline Flint MP, to announce
the results of the Pain and Quality

In conjunction with Bournemouth University's
"Diversity week" on the
theme of gender issues, women's health,
pain management and endometriosis,
local support group PEGASUS has organised
a panel representing various perspectives
including gynaecology, pain specialists,
pain research, psychology, trade union,
industry, and patients. It will be
introduced by the local MP and PEGASUS
has invited panel representation from

Members of the Endometriosis
SHE Trust have each been sent
five posters to take to their GPs,
chemists, local library, health food
shop and schools, and to contact their
local papers about these activities.
They have also been encouraged to
dostribute their VICTORIA teen leaflet
to secondary school nurses. To obtain
posters and leaflets, please contact
Endometriosis
SHE Trust.
During Endometriosis Awareness week,
SHE Trust members have been asked
to hold a T-4-£2 event again
this year and have been given a free
teabag to start them off!
The National
Endometriosis Society's
support groups are staging local awareness

Representatives of the National
Endometriosis Society
will trek CUBA
during endometriosis awareness week
to raise funds for the Society. This
is the second major challenge the
Society has set, following the successful
climb of Kilimanjaro in 2004.
